Angela Evelyn Bassett, an American actress, is known for her performance in films and on television since the mid 1980s. She has received various accolades like the Golden Globe Award, and sixteen NAACP Image Awards. In the last decade she has been working in film and TV. Her work has been recognized with many awards, including the 16 NAACP Image Awards. Bassett was born in Winston-Salem North Carolina, raised by her aunt and Uncle in New York New York. Bassett along with her sister and their mother were moved into St. Petersburg Florida when Bassett was just five. Their father had separated from their mom. Bassett was inspired to become an actor after watching the production Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, starring James Earl Jones. Yale University New Haven Connecticut granted her a bachelor's degree (1980), in African American study, and a graduate degree (1983), from the Yale School of Drama. She met Courtney B. Vance, an actress who was also at Yale and they married in 1997. Qualification: B.A. degree in African-American studies in the year 1980. Masters of Fine Arts from Yale School of Drama School.
